Messaging limits are all about how many business-initiated conversations you can kick off using each of your phone numbers within a 24-hour stretch. A business-initiated chat kicks off when the first template message reaches a customer and wraps up after 24 hours.
For business phone numbers that aren't connected and don't have an approved display name, the limit is set at 250 business-initiated conversations within a rolling 24-hour period. This covers all unverified business phone numbers, as they can't get their display name green-lit until the business is verified.
Now, for business phone numbers with a connected status and an approved display name, the conversation initiation limits in a rolling 24-hour period are as follows:
- 1,000 unique customers
- 10,000 unique customers
- 100,000 unique customers
- An unlimited number of unique customers
This starts at 1,000 unique customers and scales up automatically based on phone number status, quality rating, and how often you initiate conversations with unique customers.
Keep in mind, even if you meet these requirements, a low-quality rating on your business phone number might keep you limited to 250 business-initiated conversations until its rating improves. Please contact your dedicated account manager or message support for more info.
Checking Your Limit
To see your existing messaging limits, head to the WhatsApp Manager > Overview Dashboard > Insights tab. The panel below will display your current limit only if it has been raised from the default 250 limit.
Increasing Your Limit
Initiating a new conversation with a unique customer triggers a potential increase in your limit. This decision is contingent upon the following criteria:
- Your phone number status is Connected.
- Your phone number quality rating is Medium or High.
- In the last 7 days, you've initiated X or more conversations with unique customers, where X is your current messaging limit divided by 2.
If all conditions are met, your messaging limit will be elevated by one level within 24 hours.
