To make it easy for your Shopify customers to join your Community, follow these steps in your Shopify dashboard.
Note: If you connected your Shopify Plus Store previously by editing your checkout.liquid, please complete these steps first: update your Shopify Plus Integration.
This feature is available to Leaders on Usage Based Pricing Plans. Feel free to email us at yourfriends@community.com if you are interested in upgrading your plan.
Connect Shopify Store
- From Settings, go to Checkout. Scroll down to Marketing Options. Check the box for SMS.
- From Settings > Policies, add this mandatory text anywhere within the Privacy Policy of the connected Shopify Store:
We use Community.com, Inc. ("Community") for all text communication services. By shopping with us, you agree to your personal information being transferred to, stored by, and processed by Community in accordance with its Privacy Policy (https://www.community.com/legal/privacy-policy).
🚨 Make sure both your Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are up to date as they are both linked with the mandatory text alongside the SMS checkbox on your checkout page.
- Click Save. Your checkout page should now resemble the screenshot below.

Updating Shopify Plus Integration
If you've previously connected your Shopify Plus store, it's important to remove any outdated code before integrating with our updated solution.
Here's how to remove the opt-in feature from your Shopify Plus checkout page:
- Log in to your Shopify Plus account.
- Navigate to Themes under Online Store in the left sidebar.
- Select Edit code from the Actions dropdown menu.
- Open the {/} checkout.liquid document found under Layout.
- Locate and delete the following code snippet:

- Additionally, please note that shipping address phone number is no longer a required field. You can adjust this setting by visiting Settings > Checkout and scrolling down to the Form options.
