The composer is where you write a campaign: the message, the channel, any media, and the filters that decide who gets it. You can start from scratch, or reuse the filters from a campaign you sent recently.
Who this applies to. Everyone with sending permissions. AI Message Generator is limited by plan.
Why start in the composer
The composer holds the message and the audience in one place, which matters because the two shape each other. Knowing you're writing to your most engaged members in one city changes the wording, and a message you've already written often makes the right audience obvious.
It also previews as you go, which is more important here than on other channels. A message that looks fine in a text box can arrive split across several segments and read badly on a phone.
Writing a message
- Open the campaign composer and pick your channel.
- Enter a descriptive name for your campaign so you can easily find it later.
- Set your filters, then schedule or send. See Targeting your audience.
- Write the message, watching the segment count as you go.
- Attach media if you need it. Video is supported up to 50MB, alongside images and GIFs. See Media types, sizes and limits.
- Add dynamic fields where the message should differ per member. See Personalizing messages.
Send a Test campaign to yourself first for anything large, anything with media, and anything with personalization.
Reusing filters with Recent Campaigns
The Recent Campaigns tab in the composer exists so you don't have to rebuild the same filter set every time. It shows your recent sends, and picking one brings its filters into the campaign you're composing.
Two things to know:
- Campaigns filtered for individual members specifically don't appear in the tab.
- Not every campaign appears. The published article says both "15 most recent" and "last 100" in different paragraphs TK — this needs resolving before the page goes live, since it's the only number on it.
Drafting with AI
The AI Message Generator drafts campaign copy for you from the composer, either as a quick suggestion with no setup or as a fuller brief where you pick a goal and set the tone. It runs on the Web Dashboard and is enabled per account on request.
See AI Message Generator for modes, controls, and how to request access.
Naming a Campaign
Naming is optional. Leave it blank and the campaign is identified by its recipient count, the filters used, and the send date and time — readable enough today, much harder to interpret in six months.
- Up to 1000 characters, and duplicate names are allowed.
- You can rename past campaigns and pending scheduled ones at any time, so you can fix a naming scheme retroactively.
- Web Dashboard only, and available to accounts on a usage-based plan.
Because duplicates are allowed and nothing is enforced, the value comes entirely from your team agreeing one pattern and sticking to it. Something like date · audience · purpose is enough.
How To Compose Campaigns Well
Write like a person
This channel sits between messages from friends and family. Copy that reads as normal marketing reads as an intrusion here.
Front-load the point
Many members only ever see the first line, in a notification. If the message has to be opened to make sense, much of your audience won't.
One ask per message
Two links means neither gets clicked. Pick the action you actually want.
Test on a real phone
Segment breaks, media rendering, and dynamic fields all behave differently on a device than in the composer.
What If It's Not Working
The message arrives split into pieces
It ran past a single segment, or special characters and emoji changed the encoding. See Messages arriving broken up or out of order.
Media won't attach
Usually format, or video over 50MB. See Media types, sizes and limits.
A campaign isn't showing in Recent Campaigns
Campaigns filtered for individual members are excluded, and only recent sends appear.
The AI Message Generator isn't in my composer
Access is granted per account on request. Check Settings → Integrations.
I can't name a campaign
Naming is Web Dashboard only, and requires a usage-based plan.
