Flows let you set up automated conversations that run in the background, so you can focus on building relationships instead of repeating tasks. With flows, members receive the right message at the right time — whether they’re joining a Subcommunity or responding to a campaign. By automating these touchpoints, you save time while ensuring every member receives a consistent, timely experience.
Why Use Flows?
- Welcome new members with a more structured signup series.
- Build stronger relationships through consistent two-way engagement.
- Reduce missed opportunities by automatically following up with members who aren’t engaged.
Types of Flows
Community supports several Flow types:
- Welcome Series - A pre-built sequence that greets new members and introduces your brand. Ideal for onboarding and setting expectations, while meeting TCPA compliance.
- Campaign Follow-Up - Trigger a flow based on if members respond (or don’t respond) to a campaign, if they did/didn’t click a link, or if they replied with a specific keyword.
- Joined a Subcommunity - Starts an automated flow whenever a member is added to a Subcommunity, whether manually, via keyword, through another flow, or via API..
- Keyword Response - Members enter the flow when they send an exact message. Best for quick interactions like sharing links, event details, or sign-ups.
- Shopify Abandoned Checkout - Reminds customers about items left in their cart.
Common Use Cases
-
Welcome Series
- Onboard new members with a structured sequence of greetings, stories, and offers.
- Example:
Day 1: Greet new members and thank them for registering.
Day 2: Share a story about your brand or mission.
Day 3: Offer a special discount to encourage engagement.
-
Campaign Follow-Up
- Keep conversations going after campaigns by sending targeted follow-ups.
- Drive engagement by asking questions or sharing links after a campaign.
- Example: After a campaign announcing an event, ask “Do you want to RSVP?”; If someone responds with “Yes” or “RSVP” send them a link to do so.
-
Joined a Subcommunity
- Automatically welcome members when they’re added to a Subcommunity.
- Example: Send messages to members who join via a Subcommunity keyword.
-
Keyword Response
- Instantly share links, codes, or resources when members text a keyword.
- Example: Share a discount code when members text “SALE.”
-
Shopify Abandoned Checkout
- Encourage shoppers to return and complete a purchase.
- Example: Remind a shopper about their abandoned cart after 2 hours and share product reviews to encourage purchase completion.
Flow Status
Flow Status shows the current state of your Flow, whether it’s still being drafted, is active after being published, or has been paused. It gives you insight into whether members are entering the flow or not. Below is a breakdown of each status and what it means.
| Status | What It Means |
| Draft | The flow has been created but is still a work in progress. Members won’t enter until it’s published. |
| Active |
The flow is live and triggers for eligible members. Active flows can be paused and updated, but only new members entering afterward will see the changes. Note: Campaign Follow-Up flows cannot be paused or updated once all campaign recipients have entered the flow. |
| Paused |
The flow temporarily stops running for new members, but existing members already in the flow continue. Note: Welcome Series and Shopify Abandoned Checkout flows cannot be paused once published. |

Common Questions
Q: Will members receive duplicate messages if I edit a flow?
No. Message analytics reset when you edit a “Send Message” step, but members won’t receive the same message twice.
Q: Do messages in Flows respect Quiet Hours?
Yes. Messages will wait until Quiet Hours are over before being sent. You can disable this in the flow editor.
Q: Can I pause and restart a flow without losing it?
Yes. Pausing stops new members from entering the flow. When republished, members continue entering as normal.
Q: Can a member be in more than one flow at once?
Yes. Members can be active in multiple flows at the same time, as long as they trigger each one
